Bilko to feature on 60 Minutes this Sunday! X Games 15 Gold Medalist, Victorian Blake ‘Bilko’ Williams will feature on a 60 Minutes story devoted to this year’s LA event, screening this Sunday night.

Fans can tune in from 7.30pm on Channel 9 and check out a behind-the-scenes look at the event and the athletes that make it the action sports spectacle that it is.

Williams, from the country town of Baxter, stole the show at the 15th staging of the event in 2009.

He took a hard-fought silver medal in the Moto X Best Trick discipline, much to the amazement of the crowd and his peers, who thought his performance well worthy of the gold. A determined Bilko returned fire in his final Moto X Freestyle run, snatching the coveted gold medal with an almost flawless performance.

A frenzied few weeks of media and sponsor commitments followed, before Williams was able to take some time out with a quick trip home to Australia. “I took a quick trip home to see my family and also catch up with (fellow FMX rider) Cam Sinclair to see how he was doing,” said Williams.

“It was awesome to catch up with everyone that couldn’t be in LA to help me celebrate.” Nursing a knee injury sustained at the event, Bilko recently returned to the US where he has begun to undergo a series of surgical procedures.

“I’ve only just had my right knee reconstructed and had a plate and four screws removed from my foot,” he said. “It’s been about a day since surgery and everything feels good so far. “I’ll head back in soon for a shoulder reconstruction, so all up I’ll be looking at about five months off the bike to recover.”

While admitting it was disappointing to be out of action for the remainder of the year, Bilko said the messages of support from family, friends, fans and sponsors had helped to ease the pain. “It makes it all worthwhile, receiving such positive messages. I’m so glad everyone has stuck by me and got to see me bring my first FMX gold medal back to Australian soil!”

His next competitive outing looks likely to be the Red Bull X Fighters season opener in 2010, with further progress updates and news to be posted online at www.bilko22.com
