The most of you already know the tandem Backflips with two or three people. Antonio Navas and Rocky Florensa from Spain refined the tandem FMX by doing some crazy tricks like the Superman & Kiss of death and get well known after die Masters of Dirt series by the beginning of this year. We talked with the spaniards about how they got the idea of doing tandem FMX and their future plans.
First of all, tell the guys out there some basics about you - where do you come from, how old are you and what is your mission?
Antonio Navas, 29 years and Rocky Florensa, 24 years from Lleida, Spain
Our mission is to have fun, but first of all we want that the people have fun with our tandem tricks.
Who and what did inspire you to start with MX and when did you begin with riding dirt bikes and especially fmx?
Antonio: Well I started riding MX when I was 9, my dad had a dirt bike and he rode some MX and Enduro races, so it was easy for me to fall in love with it. After some years racing Motocross, I realized that fmx was what I really wanted to do, so I turned to a FMX rider when I was 22.
Rocky: I always liked dirt bikes, so after some years asking to my parents to buy me one, I could finally get one when I was 11. After that I did some races but finally I started FMX when I met Antonio Navas, that was when I was 19.
When did you start doing the tandem freestyle tricks?
We started early this year, but didn't really practice much until we get some tandem-shows to do it.
How and when did you get the idea of doing tandem freestyle tricks?
We were training together one day, and we were talking about the tandem-flip, and we both said that this trick was already done for few riders, so after I said, what if we try to do FMX tricks? That would be something really new and can be cool, so I asked Rocky to sit behind me and we tried to ride a little bit, and we felt good, so we moved the ramp to 10 meters and we jumped it, after few jumps we moved the ramp to 17 meters.
Then we put extra foot pegs and a special back fender and we tried some tricks, and it works! That's how the tandem thing started :-)
We saw several combinations of tricks like Superman and Nothing.
What tandem tricks do you already do?
At the beginning we started with both doing no hands, rocky (on the back) seat grab, seat grab one hand... but when we had our first event with tandem (masters of dirt in Vienna) we tried another combo, seat grab one hand with heel clicker, then we got three more shows for Masters Of Dirt in Croatia, Slovenia and Serbia, and we learnt a new trick each show, so now we can also do Indian air, tsunami, and our latest one superman+kod.
Do you train that tricks into the foam pit first?
We haven't trained into the foam pit, yet. But we have been thinking to do some new tricks and we want to try them into the foam first.
Do you have an own FMX compound or where do you train?
Yes, we both are from InsideFMX team and we have a huge FMX compound in Spain. We have it pretty easy to do good training sessions.
What are your plans and which series and contests you are interested to ride in?
Well, we have done all the Masters Of Dirt events and they are planning to take us for their next Austrian tour, after that we are open to any offer.
We also have several shows without the tandem, because we also can ride a dirt bike each.
What are you doing in your freetime beside 2-wheelers? Do you have any other hobbies and passions?
Antonio: I'm taking care most of the time of all the InsideFMX team, website, shows, etc. And also riding FMX as much as I can, so I have no to much time to do anything else, but when I can I also like to ride Motocross and Enduro.
Rocky: BMX, Trial, Enduro, Motocross Kiickboxing, I'm not bored at all :-)
